Turtle Rescue
Come and join us rescue the turtles as part of our turtle tagging and research.
Learn from our experts how to find, track and tag these beautiful creatures.
Gudjuda has been conducting turtle tagging and reporting for over 20 years including research into fibro papilloma across all Bowen Bays, north to Cape Upstart.
The research ensures these animals will continue to be accessible to future generations. Under the leadership and mentoring of Eddie Smallwood, Elder and Chairman of Gudjuda, and Senior Ranger James Gaston, Juru Elder and Traditional Land Owners, scientific research is carried out under the Permit: Great Barrier Reef (EST) and Animal Ethics Permit.
The permits allow the handling of turtles for collecting information on size, weight, general health of barnacles and tagging. The information and tag numbers are sent to the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries, and local, State, National and International Data Bases.
